HARMONIZATION OF SEISMIC HAZARD MAPS
FOR THE WESTERN BALKAN COUNTRIES

SfP Project 983054 (BSHAP)
Realised activities
Workshop, Ohrid, Macedonia, 27–28 May, 2010
The joint workshop of the groups for identifying the seismic sources, their characteristics and hazard computation was organized on 27–28 May, 2010 in Ohrid. The groups discussed: converting the unified catalogue into suitable Mw magnitude, errors in last catalogue edition, recent GMP equations, alternative hazard software etc. Prof Kuka gave the introduction to OHAZ software.

Meeting, Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, 9th April, 2010
The BSHAP co-directors meeting was held on 9th of April 2010 in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. The following topics were discussed: instruments repair and deployment, establishment of groups for identifying earthquake sources and their characteristics, PSHA analysis using OHAZ and another benchmark softwares, empirical scaling relationships for magnitude unification in earthquake catalogue, collaboration with SHARE project etc.

Workshop, Banja Luka, BH, 25-28 October, 2009
The workshop was held on October 25-28, 2009 in Banja Luka, Bosnia and Herzegovina, covering discussion on: Overview of the Project  progress; Earthquake catalogue; Development of OHAZ - Hazard assessment software; GIS thematic maps and final decisions for the last Project year implementation.

GIS Software Training, Divcibare, Serbia, 21–23 April, 2009
The First GIS Software Training of the Project was organized by the Seismological Survey of Serbia. The Training on MapInfo Professional 9.5. was held on April 21-23, 2009 in Divcibare near Valjevo, Serbia with participation of representatives of the partner institutions from all countries involved in the Project, as well as GIS software trainers.

Workshop, Budva, 16-17 December, 2008
The workshop was held on December 16-17, 2008 in Becici, Budva, Montenegro, covering discussion and decisions on: Overview of the ongoing Project results; Earthquake catalogue declustering, completeness, format; Ground motion predictive models; Purchasing GIS software (MapInfo); Development of OHAZ - Hazard assessment software; Seismic source zone delineation and characterization.

Workshop, Dubrovnik, 26-27 March, 2008
The workshop was dedicated to analysis of seismic instrument bid covering discussion and decisions on seismic instrumentation selection. At this Workshop the final national drafts of earthquake catalogues with threshold magnitude 3+ were reported. Prof. Herak from Croatia presented the First progress report on unification of earthquake catalogue data for the Region. Also, Prof. Stamatovska from Macedonia showed the analysis results of comparisons between existing empirical ground motion models and strong motion data recorded in the Region.

NATO HQ, Brussels, 12th March, 2008
The second NATO Science Forum on Environmental Security took place on 12 March 2008 at NATO in Brussels. Prof. Branislav Glavatovic, as the NATO Project Director of the Harmonization of Seismic Hazard Maps for the Western Balkan Countries, gave a presentation titled "BALKANS STABILITY PACT - BALKAN HARMONISATION OF SEISMIC HAZARD MAPS" within a session "Partner Country Priorities for NATO SPS Programme".

Workshop, Skopje, 17-18 December, 2007
The Workshop was organized in Skopje with the principle tasks:
-To synchronize earthquake catalogues of Western Balkan Countries
-To discuss and delineate potential seismic zones affecting the region under the study.
